Civello 2007

Today's wine review is inspired by the weather and a visit earlier this week. Today was supposed to be a rainy, dreary day and ended up sunny and hot so I will share with you another great wine for a day like this! The wine is Civello 2007, owned by Row Eleven winery in California, this is a blend of Verdelho, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay. It pours a light straw and has great lemon zest, white peach and apple on the nose. On the palate this is a refreshing offering that shows lychee, more apple, some spice and a hint of honey. The finish is crisp with a nice, balanced acidity that makes this another great wine for spicy Asian food. Pick up a bottle, toss it in the fridge and you wont regret it!

Pegovino Grenach/Syrah 2006

Today's wine is one that I've had sitting around the store and forgot about! At the first sip this was a favorite and I had recommended many times until I moved on to other wines. The Pegovino Grenache/Syrah 2006 is a nice rustic French red with enough fruit to please everyone. It pours a deep red with purple edges and has earth, blackberry, some pine and currant on the nose. On the palate this definitely needs a little time to breath but once it opens up it shows black cherry, licorice, and pepper. The finish is a little hot at first but after a bit of time softens to a lengthy pleasant finish with a hint of tannin. Perfect for lamb, hamburgers or pork chops. Pick some up today while I still have some left!

Bradgate Syrah 2006

We're just a few days away from the sports world focusing on South Africa so what better time to share with you another great wine from there. Today's wine is Bradgate Syrah 2006. This Syrah is definitely an "old world" version. Pouring a rich purple, this has mulberry, earth, vanilla and sage on the nose. On the palate this is a medium bodied wine that shows muted red currant, violet, a hint of spice and a pleasant earthiness on the finish. This is a great wine that showcases the more traditional style of wines that come from South Africa.

Napa Cellars Piont Noir 2007

On this cloudy day I want to share with you a surprising Pinot Noir from Napa. The 2007 Napa Cellars Pinot Noir has nuance and a delicacy found usually in much more expensive wines. Pouring a beautiful ruby color it has spice, cherry and a hint of mint on the nose. On the palate this is a medium bodied wine that shows vanilla, strawberry and cherry. The finish is dry and of medium length. A perfect wine for salmon or turkey this is another great offering out of California.
