Wine Fact of the day! Syrah/Shiraz
So I just reviewed a Syrah from Washington State and it made me think of the confusion between Syrah and Shiraz. To address that issue, both Syrah and Shiraz are the same grape but referred to as Syrah in most countries but as Shiraz in Australia. Grown originally in the Rhone Valley in France, Syrah can be made into straight varietal or blended as it is in many Rhone wines. Its a grape that provides full bodied, dark, rich wines that have great dark berry flavor and usually a bit of black pepper. I hope this makes labels a bit easier for you to understand and helps you find the wines you're looking for. What would you like me to share tomorrow?
